Several years ago, me and my wife were working in charter school which operate from the usual 8 to 5 and we have to be there half an hour before and after. Spending 10-hour on your job is more than enough to make it less exciting and stressful while adding hefty take-home assignments, obstinate teens as well as administrator politics. Well if without my camping coffee pot, then I surely be suffering from ulcer.
This is also the same reason why when I was laid off, I felt to celebrate the freedom I have than having to mourn on the loss of job. The truth is, my wife followed my footsteps several months later and turned her resignation letter. We realized how big of our lives that have been sapped away once we’re free from this cruel act of a 50-hour work week. There were people and close friends who we had not spent time with for years, despite knowing that we’re just on the same part of town.
We have made a decision to start our own business which will give us freedom to spend time the way we want, take vacations, spend time with friends, use our camping coffee pot once again and so on. Right from this moment, we had started to brainstorm ideas on a new business.
The difference between working for yourself and for someone else is that, you have to work twice as hard. This is true particularly when you are just starting out. The first few months we are doing the business, our workdays are even stretched to 12-hours a day and at times, it goes beyond it. We’re just lucky to have our camping coffee pot which gives us the energy we need when our body is almost ready to give up. When we’re not working at the shop, we’re glued to our computers trying to schedule class, reach to vendors and spread the word out on our social media accounts.
And before long, we noticed all of a sudden that we are almost working for 3 years straight without giving the break that our mentally and physically abused body has taken. Before, we were able to take road trips yearly but nowadays, we’re lucky if we find the time to drive two hours to take a visit to our family. Once, we’re avid campers that are equipped with advanced camp stoves and camping coffee pot. Work expands in filling the gaps in available time and because we hadn’t put up boundaries, it’s exactly what has happened. We are using our camping coffee pot and take the time to solve this issue.
